Was the day I got married. No, it wasn’t a Friday in that year. But I have spent the past few days learning a reasonably simple and playable version of our wedding song that I will play for her tomorrow. The song is When I Fall in Love, written by Young & Heymann. I’m not sure if I transposed it into the perfect key, but I can play it in D major (it was written in Eb major) and do the two shifts I need. While playing it in its original key was not beyond my capabilities, keeping it simple let me have some chance on focusing on feeling. It’s probably the most valuable performance I’ll give. Hopefully, all that money I put into lessons will shine through.
