We talked about emphasizing fundamentals in practice today, and how to make the most of a short practice.

Three days in a row seems to the the magic number.  If you can, try to get three in before taking a day off.

Also, focus on fundamentals of good practice, such as:

1) keeping your ear engaged through shifts

2) relaxing and breathing

3) Focus on one thing.  Try to simplify if you can.  If you’re working  on a problem of the left hand, take liberties with the bowing, for the time being.

4) Posture – try to keep 2 tall when releasing 4.  I have the tendency to drop my arm when I’m discouraged, and this causes my hand to curve, making intonation less predictable.

All this has been blogged before by many people.
