My plan did not work out. Using my thumb, even with low tension, to hold my place was not a body-friendly plan. I’m just going to have to finger measure for now. I will see what degree of relaxation I can achieve to get the extension. It’s not much, since first finger extensions are tighter than the corresponding position in first.
I could also temporarily use a new-finger shift until my ear is trained for that interval, then go back to extending. Thoughts?
