Dan ended the lesson by mentioning that he had been unusually tough on me. This was odd, since I hadn’t noticed. I had been feeling quite lost in other areas of my life; no doubt my cello attention had also been lagging even though I have continued to practice.

I suppose that since we were learning a new piece, that the rate of criticism was simply what I expected for a new piece. Even though there was a lot of criticism, there was also the ability to absorb it this time. I just need some time to consolidate everything. I want to play one piece with musicality – and keeping my right and left in cooperation.
