When I think about balance, I think about standing up. If I am standing up and lose my balance, I fall down. But when I play cello, I’m already sitting down and I’ve yet to fall off my chair. So, even though I can tell when I’m grossly out of balance, I cannot really interpret what my teacher means when he talks about my balance on the bow.
Thus, we are continuing to work through the Kummer #35 and #36 pieces with an (inner) eye towards paying attention to balance.
