Much as year 1 did! I’m learning how to draw the bow, taking care to use my fingers and not rely on and thereby lock my thumb. I”m working primarily on the open strings, trying to see what I need to make the string speak.
Also, Dan put me on a strict regimen of limited practice. I need to stop and rest twenty minutes after every twenty minutes of practice. But this is a blessing, because I can really pay attention to breathing, posture, and how my body feels.
If there was one theme to which I could boil down the entire first year, it would be this:
I was surprised cello playing was as much if not more about how to play “me” as how to play the cello.
If there is a secondary theme, it’s that as my body changes, i can feel more subtle feedback from the cello.
