I played for over an hour tonight. There was no clock in the room and I just played until I got tired. Focused on Kummer #8 – that’s the D major piece where I need to pay attention to my bowing on the slurs. After that, switched to the Suzuki Bach Minuet #2 (#17 in the Cello School book). Tried to work on keeping a lighter more ringing tone instead of crushing the strings. I crushed them anyway. Hence the title of my post!

Once I realized what I was doing, I tried to ease up, and while I still need lots of improvement, it did sound better. Finally, ended with some open string exercises so that I could hear good tone throughout and pay a bit more attention to my breathing and bow control.
