It’s not every day that a cello lesson can help me understand my relationship with my wife. Dan was trying to explain that I need to approach the dynamic feedback on each string differently. His point was that I need to change my sensitivity and connection when I move to a new string.

Then he said purely by way of analogy, not a personal comment- “much like the relationship with your wife.” Perhaps each day is different, and each day requires a different degree of closeness and separation.
Yet I had been approaching each day as though it were the same – particularly the weekdays. Interesting, how we had been growing a bit more distant. I had never thought of each day being a new relationship.

I’ll discuss the technique points another time.
